Ahtna recently hosted a Yakutat-Ahtna Cultural Exchange in Glennallen. The primary objective of this event was to foster a strong bond between the Ahtna and Yakutat communities, promoting the exchange of cultural heritage and preserving essential knowledge about our shared ancestry. According to oral traditions dating back centuries, ancestors of a tribe in Yakutat originally migrated from the Copper River area.
The cultural exchange comprised engaging discussions on various topics, including plant life, traditional dances, language, and the invaluable sharing of our peoples’ oral history. Through this event, both communities had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of each other’s customs, beliefs, and traditions, creating a stronger sense of unity and mutual appreciation.
